There’s something quietly powerful about sitting at a table with a paintbrush in your hand and a warm cuppa by your side.

Our group at Dinas Powys Library runs on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, from 2:00–3:30pm, and it’s completely free. It’s a gentle, relaxed group for older adults and adults of any age who want to take a moment for themselves — to express, explore, and just enjoy the process of creating.

Here’s the thing: you don’t need to be an artist to benefit from painting. In fact, occupational therapy shows us that creative engagement has incredible benefits regardless of skill level.

🖌️ Why it works: The OT Perspective

  • Motor skills – Painting helps keep hands and fingers flexible and strong through light repetitive movement.

  • Cognitive engagement – Choosing colours, planning a design, or simply following the brush helps stimulate brain activity in a calming way.

  • Emotional expression – Sometimes words are hard to find — but colour speaks volumes.

  • Mindfulness – The act of painting slows us down and brings us into the present moment.

  • Connection – Painting in a group, even quietly, creates a sense of shared purpose and community.

And most importantly? It brings joy — which is one of the most therapeutic tools we have.

We’d love to see new faces at the next session. Whether you’ve painted before or just fancy trying something different, you’re very welcome.

Come find your flow at Dinas Powys Library, every 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesday, 2:00–3:30pm. The paint’s ready — and so are we.
