What starts as a simple chat can turn into so much more.

At CwmpasOT, our companionship calls are all about connection—whether that’s a friendly phone call, a visit at home, or heading out together for a cup of tea, a walk, or a local activity. It’s flexible, person-centred, and built around what matters most to each individual.

Because sometimes, the smallest moments make the biggest difference.

So, what are companionship calls?

They’re exactly what they sound like—but with a little extra meaning behind them.

Some people prefer a visit at home, having someone to chat with over a cuppa. And for those who want to get out and about, we can support trips into the community—whether that’s a café, a group, or just some fresh air.

There’s no “one size fits all.” It’s about choice, routine, and feeling connected.

Why does it matter?

As we get older, opportunities for social interaction can reduce. For some, this can lead to loneliness, low mood, and a loss of confidence.

That’s where companionship support can be so powerful.

Having someone to talk to, laugh with, or share everyday moments with can:

  • Boost mood and emotional wellbeing

  • Reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation

  • Build confidence to engage with the world again

  • Provide structure and something to look forward to

And importantly—it helps people feel seen, heard, and valued.

The Occupational Therapy difference

At CwmpasOT, companionship isn’t just about “keeping someone company.” It’s rooted in Occupational Therapy principles—supporting people to live meaningful, fulfilling lives.

That might look like:

  • Rebuilding confidence to go out into the community

  • Supporting routines and daily structure

  • Encouraging participation in hobbies and interests

  • Maintaining independence for as long as possible

It’s about enabling people to do the things that matter to them—in a way that feels safe and achievable.

Supporting people living with dementia

For individuals living with dementia, consistency and connection are key.

A familiar face, a regular visit, or a shared activity can help:

  • Reduce anxiety and confusion

  • Support memory through conversation and reminiscence

  • Maintain communication skills

  • Create a sense of comfort and routine

Even simple activities—like looking through photos, going for a walk, or chatting about familiar topics—can have a meaningful impact.

Mental health matters too

Companionship calls aren’t just for older adults—they can support anyone experiencing low mood, anxiety, or social isolation.

A regular connection can:

  • Break cycles of withdrawal

  • Provide emotional support in a non-clinical way

  • Encourage gentle re-engagement with daily life

  • Offer a safe space to talk

Sometimes, knowing someone is there—and genuinely cares—can make all the difference.

It’s the little things…

A laugh over a board game. A chat over a cup of tea. A short walk on a sunny day. A familiar face at the door.

These moments might seem small—but they build confidence, connection, and quality of life over time.

Get involved

If you or someone you support could benefit from companionship calls, we’d love to hear from you.

Because everyone deserves connection—and no one should feel alone.
