Yesterday we had a wonderfully creative and calming session at Llanover Hall, where we ran a clay workshop as part of the ageing well activities.

We were delighted to be joined by Debbie Rowlands, who leads ageing well sessions at Llanover Hall, and Liz Baker, who has been instrumental in connecting us with fantastic ageing well opportunities across Cardiff.

Also joining us were some brilliant professionals from dementia support services:🧠 Neil, dementia advocate🧠 Laura, young onset practitioner🧠 Emily, dementia care advisor in REACT and CMHT

Participants rolled up their sleeves and embraced the hands-on creativity of pinch pots and coil pots. The results? Pure imagination in clay form—from a cat in a basket to a man in a hot tub, a snake in a basket, and even a mushroom in a pot!

The atmosphere was full of laughter, relaxed conversation, and mutual encouragement. Many attendees shared how calming and enjoyable they found the session. It offered more than just art—it was a chance to express, connect, and unwind.

As occupational therapists, we know that creative, hands-on activities like these are powerful tools for supporting:

  • Fine motor skills and hand strength

  • Cognitive focus and sequencing

  • Emotional expression and stress relief

  • Social connection and identity

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a special experience.
