This week at Minton Court, our group gathered together for a light-hearted game of Cat Bingo. The session was filled with smiles, chatter, and plenty of feline fun. As we played, we read out interesting facts about cats, compared which ones we would love to have, and laughed at the funny expressions in the pictures. It was wonderful to hear stories about cats people have had in the past, or ones their family members cared for.
We were delighted to have two local police officers join in with the group, which added a lovely sense of connection with the wider community. The excitement built as the cats
were called, and in the end we had three winners ā two lines and a full house! š
But behind the laughter, this activity also brought important occupational therapy benefits:
Cognitive stimulationĀ ā Following the game, remembering facts, and making connections to personal stories helped everyone exercise their memory and thinking skills.
Social interactionĀ ā Sharing experiences and chatting about cats encouraged conversation, built confidence, and reduced feelings of isolation.
Emotional wellbeingĀ ā Laughter and light-hearted moments boosted mood and gave people a sense of joy and belonging.
Community engagementĀ ā Having the police officers take part gave residents a chance to connect with familiar faces in a safe, positive environment.
Occupational therapy is all about finding meaningful activitiesĀ that promote health, independence, and quality of life. Something as simple as a themed game of bingo can spark memories, open up conversation, and create a space where people feel valued and included.
We look forward to more sessions like this ā bringing people together through creativity, connection, and fun!
