At Grand Avenue Day Centre in Cardiff, participants recently enjoyed a vibrant session painting clay pots they had made in a previous workshop. With paintbrushes in hand, the group transformed their pots into colourful works of art — each one reflecting individual creativity and personality.

Activities like clay pot painting go beyond decoration. As Occupational Therapists, we carefully design sessions to bring therapeutic as well as creative value. Pot painting supports:
Fine motor skills through brushwork and handling materials
Creativity and self-expression, giving everyone a chance to make something unique
Focus and problem-solving, as participants decide on colours and designs
Emotional wellbeing, boosting confidence and pride in completed work
Social interaction, as groups share ideas and create side by side
These workshops are suitable for all abilities and can be adapted to meet the needs of different groups. They offer meaningful, enjoyable, and therapeutic experiences that leave people with both happy memories and a tangible creation to take home.
